Yes, *Dark Winds* is officially coming back for a fourth season. AMC confirmed the renewal in February 2025, just ahead of the season 3 premiere.

"When we greenlit the first season of *Dark Winds*, we saw the potential for an authentic and long-running franchise that could live alongside the worlds we were building around *The Walking Dead *and* Anne Rice*," said Dan McDermott, president of entertainment and AMC Studios for AMC Networks, in a statement.

Showrunner and executive producer John Wirth emphasized that he, along with the "superlative writers, extraordinary cast, and dedicated crew," is thrilled to continue developing the world of *Dark Winds* in season 4.

McClarnon also expressed his excitement about returning as Joe Leaphorn for season 4. "I'm most thrilled to be spending time with this wonderful cast and crew whom I have grown to love," he shared. The third season sees Leaphorn and Chee take on the case of two missing boys, while Manuelito, now working for Border Patrol, uncovers a conspiracy tied to human and drug trafficking along the border.

In the premiere, viewers learn that one of the boys, Ernesto (Alonso Rappa), has been killed, while the other, George (Bodhi Okuma Linton), is still alive. By the finale, it's revealed that archaeologist Dr. Reynolds (Christopher Heyerdahl) murdered Ernesto after the boys discovered he was fabricating research and planting fake evidence to keep his funding. Luckily, Chee rescues George and kills Reynolds.

Meanwhile, Manuelito's investigation uncovers that oil magnate Tom Spenser (Bruce Greenwood) runs the powerful trafficking network. She kills his ruthless fixer, Budge (Raoul Max Trujillo), and arrests several corrupt Border Patrol officers. As for Spenser, he manages to escape, so there's a chance he could return in season 4.

Amid all the action and mystery, Leaphorn's marriage is also under threat in the season 3 finale. His wife, Emma (Deanna Allison), walks away because she can't keep living with someone who is so consumed by his work and haunted by their son's death.

What will season 4 of *Dark Winds *be about?

AMC released the official teaser trailer for Dark Winds season 4 on Thursday, Oct. 23. The clip doesn't give too much away, but it's clear that Leaphorn, Chee, and Manuelito are once again investigating a dark and dangerous case.

"I had this badge for four years before I saw my first murder," Leaphorn says in the teaser. "Now it just feels like every day. It's hard having to hold it all."

According to AMC, season 4 follows the trio to Los Angeles, where they're trying to rescue a missing Navajo girl "from an obsessive killer with ties to organized crime."

The network previously announced that *Dark Winds *season 4 will feature several new cast members, including German actor Franka Potente (*Run Lola Run*) as Irene Vaggan.

Isabel DeRoy-Olson (*Three Pines*) joins the show as Billie Tsosie, who, according to AMC, is "a decisive and resourceful Navajo teenager who wants nothing more than the freedom to connect with her people outside of her boarding school but quickly finds herself in over her head with only her cunning and resilience keeping her alive."

Chaske Spencer (*Twilight*) steps in as Sonny, a charming "recruiter for a Los Angeles crime ring" who preys on young Native American men adjusting to life in the city. Luke Barnett (*Faith Based*) appears as FBI Special Agent Toby Shaw, and *Bosch *star Titus Welliver rounds out the cast as Dominic McNair, "a ruthless crime boss who imports and exports drugs and stolen luxury goods into and out of Los Angeles."
