K-pop veteran Park Bom has provided some context behind her dramatic transformation, and it's not what some fans expected.

The 41-year-old, who rose to fame as part of the legendary girl group 2NE1, admitted that she underwent multiple cosmetic surgeries, and they were driven by her insecurities and the pressures of the K-pop industry. The revelation came after years of speculation and growing concern among fans over her health and appearance.

According to a report from Korean outlet Chosun, Park Bom confessed that she had personally paid for cosmetic procedures while working under YG Entertainment because she didn't want to "go on stage looking like a commoner."

She further noted that as her appearance changed, people at her label allegedly used her as "an example to mock people who had plastic surgeries."

The singer's changing appearance had been a frequent topic of fan speculation for more than a decade, but until now, Bom had largely brushed off rumors of surgery.

She often attributed her appearance, which seemed to show bloat at times, to lymphadenitis, a medical condition known to cause facial swelling.

Recently, Bom shocked fans by announcing a lawsuit against YG Entertainment worth USD$4.5 quadrillion, though her current label, D Nation, denied the legitimacy of her claims.

"All settlements related to Park Bom's 2NE1 activities have already been completed, and there is no record that the complaint uploaded to social media was ever filed," the agency stated.

They also confirmed that the artist has halted all activities to focus on "treatment and recovery." "We will do our utmost to help the artist regain her health," the label stated.

Fans have grown concerned over Park Bom's appearance and health struggles

Park Bom's health issues have long been public. After reuniting with 2NE1 for a world tour last year, she abruptly left the group again in August following medical advice to rest.

This has resulted in the remaining three members of 2NE1 continuing to promote without her, according to the Daily Mail.

"Following medical advice to prioritize rest and stability, we reached this difficult decision after thorough discussion," D Nation shared at the time.

Her return to social media in April reignited fan concern after she uploaded a series of selfies showing a heavily altered appearance.

The 41-year-old's features looked almost unrecognizable. Her eyes drooped downward, and her lips were smeared in exaggerated lipstick, forming an unsettling smile.

In the comments, fans expressed shock and worry. "Queen Bommie, please stop editing your face with those filters, you're so pretty, they're unnecessary," one wrote. "What the hell has she done to her face?" another added.

While some speculated that filters were to blame, others feared she had undergone even more surgery. Her agency, however, previously maintained that the changes in her face were due to stress and weight fluctuations, not additional cosmetic procedures.

"Some people say she got plastic surgery, but that's not the case. She has had a hard time for a while due to stress," the agency stated in 2020.

"We assured her to just be comfortable until her next album comes out. This has led to a slight weight gain which affected her facial feature as well."

Park Bom's changing appearance and her current struggles hint at the darker side of beauty in K-pop

Park Bom's story has shed light on South Korea's intense beauty culture, where the ideals of physical perfection are often treated as a professional necessity.

The country has one of the highest rates of cosmetic surgery in the world, with nearly one in four women aged 19 to 29 having undergone some kind of cosmetic procedure.

It's not just women, either. A 2019 study has determined that 15% of young men in the country had a history of plastic surgery. Another estimate from surgeons suggested that men make up 20%-40% of plastic surgery patients.

Bom's recent confession then reflects the immense pressure K-pop idols face to maintain a standard that could almost be described as impossible.

Despite her success with 2NE1, which is already one of the most influential groups in K-pop history, Bom's battle with public scrutiny, health conditions, and emotional struggles has highlighted the toll that industry expectations can take on an artist.

Netizens have shared their thoughts on Park Bom's recent comments on social media

Jeremy Allen White in 'Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere' (2025) ; Allison Williams in 'Regretting You' (2025) ; Kristen Bell in episode 204 of Nobody Wants This.

For fans of Bruce Springsteen and corny rom-coms alike, it's another great weekend to settle into bed and binge-watch hours of TV — or, if you're feeling adventurous, make your way to the theaters.

This weekend, Oct. 25-26, two highly anticipated films are hitting cinemas — one based on The Boss himself and another adapted from a Colleen Hoover novel (a little sappy fall romance in honor of cuffing season, anyone?)

Over on streaming, Netflix premiered the second season of everyone's favorite shiksa-led rom-com while Paramount+ went less romantic and more crime family-focused with the return of one of their most successful shows.

And there's more! Here's a list of the eight best new movies and shows to watch this weekend and where to stream them.

Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere

You may think you know Springsteen, but do you specifically know how his iconic 1982 album Nebraska came to be? If you're sitting here thinking maybe that's not something you thought you needed to know anyway, then let Jeremy Allen White's performance alone be what gets you running to the theaters.

The Bear actor worked alongside The Boss himself to bring the pivotal years of songmaking in his New Jersey bedroom to life in Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere.

Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere releases in theaters on Oct. 24.

Regretting You

Perhaps bring a pack of tissues with you for this one — if you know Hoover, you know. Based on the book of the same name, Regretting You follows Morgan (Allison Williams), a young mother who puts her dreams on hold to raise her teenage daughter, Clara (McKenna Grace).

When Morgan's husband and sister die in a car accident, she discovers a devastating family secret — and finds unexpected support in her brother-in-law Jonah (Dave Franco). But she can't keep the secret from Clara for long...

Regretting You releases in theaters on Oct. 24.

Nobody Wants This season 2

Joanne (Kristen Bell) and Noah (Adam Brody) may be deeply in love, but their problems — i.e. Joanne, a shiksa, Noah, a rabbi — have not magically disappeared.

And as Joanne's sister, Morgan (Justine Lupe), puts it, these two have got to get out of the honeymoon phase and face reality: their different relationships with faith could be a problem.

Watch Nobody Wants This season 2 on Netflix.

A House of Dynamite

The stakes are high in director Kathryn Bigelow's (Zero Dark Thirty) newest project, A House of Dynamite. When an unattributed nuclear missile is launched at the U.S., it's up to a very stressed team of politicians to figure out what's next — and how to save 9 million people from losing their lives.

Starring Idris Elba as the President of the U.S. and Rebecca Ferguson as Olivia Walker, a captain monitoring threats against the country, the thriller is sure to get your blood pumping.

Watch A House of Dynamite on Netflix.

Mayor of Kingstown season 4 premiere

Jeremy Renner's Mike McLusky is meeting his match in this season of Mayor of Kingstown.

The convict-turned-mayor is used to running Kingstown as he pleases, but Edie Falco's Nina Hobbs, a strict new prison warden, is going to make his usual leadership style a bit trickier...

Watch the Mayor of Kingstown season 4 premiere on Sunday, Oct. 26 on Paramount+.

It: Welcome to Derry

Everyone's favorite killer clown, Pennywise, is back in Derry, but this time he's terrorizing a new brood of kids — 27 years prior to the events of 2017's It.

With Bill Skarsgård reprising his role as the psychopathic killer, Welcome to Derry is the perfect spooky prequel to the Stephen King adaptation.

Watch the season premiere of It: Welcome to Derry on Sunday, Oct. 26 at 9 p.m. ET on HBO Max.

Stiller & Meara: Nothing Is Lost

Ben Stiller is a comedy icon in his own right. But his skills didn't come from nowhere — he is the son of comedy legends Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara.

Now, Ben and his sister Amy Stiller are looking back at the hours of footage their parents left behind, unpacking their legacy — both personally and professionally.

Watch Stiller & Meara: Nothing Is Lost on Apple TV.

Allen Iv3rson

Your favorite basketball player's favorite basketball player (and the inspiration behind Post Malone's 2015 song "White Iverson"), Allen Iverson, is peeling back the curtain on the triumphs and tribulations of his life in Allen Iv3rson.

Iverson was a trailblazer in basketball, playing alongside greats like Shaquille O'Neal. However, his strong personality and beliefs often got him in trouble on the court — and sometimes with the law, too.

Watch Allen Iv3rson on Prime Video.

 • "The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl" Star Cayden Boyd Is Married! Inside His 'Timeless' Wedding to Madeline Mills (Exclusive)

Actor Cayden Boyd married chiropractor Madeline Mills on Oct. 23 in Tulsa, Okla.

The "simple, intimate, and timeless" wedding was attended by 75 guests

The couple met on a camping trip with mutual friends, and got engaged on May 18, 2024

Max is all grown up — and married!

Actor Cayden Boyd — who is best known for starring as daydreamer Max in The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl alongside Taylor Lautner (Sharkboy) and Taylor Dooley (Lavagirl) in 2005 — tied the knot with chiropractor Madeline Mills on Thursday, Oct. 23, at The Mansion at Woodward Park in Tulsa, Okla. The couple's "simple, intimate, and timeless" wedding was attended by 75 of their closest friends and family members.

"It was important to us that our wedding not feel like an uptight production, but that it felt like a gathering of people who love us," Mills exclusively tells PEOPLE. "Intimacy and privacy were important to us, and we just knew that the bigger it got, the less likely it would be that we could have personal conversations and laughter-filled moments with each individual guest."

Odd Lot Photo

Madeline Mills and Cayden Boyd on their wedding day

She continues, "We both recognize we wouldn't be the people we are today without the people who have chosen to pour into us and be there for us throughout our lives. It's a 'thank you' to them as much as it is a celebration for us."

Since they started wedding planning, Boyd and Mills "have been in agreement" of saying "I do" in the place they call home. The pair's families, communities and church are in Tulsa, so it only felt right that they wed somewhere local. They were instantly drawn by the natural beauty and elegance of their venue's gardens, which fit their "shared vision" of "a black and white wedding with organic neutral colors and greenery."

"We wanted to have this day in the place we call home," Mills says. "I have a vision of regularly taking our future kids to those gardens as they grow older, and telling them how they're playing in the place where Daddy and I said yes to forever."

Miramax/YouTube

Cayden Boyd as Max in "The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl"

Before the "family-friendly and fun" wedding was an "intentional and perfect" rehearsal dinner and welcome party at a beloved brewery, hosted by Boyd's parents.

On their big day, Boyd and Mills took communion and exchanged handwritten vows in a heartfelt ceremony officiated by the groom's close friend, Chris Hart. Boyd walked down the aisle as "On Your Way" by Alabama Shakes played, then Mills made her grand entrance to a violin version of "Gratitude."

Odd Lot Photo

Madeline Mills and Cayden Boyd on their wedding day

"Ultimately, for me, getting married means we are stepping into God's design for marriage. It's a lifelong commitment, and we've both taken marriage so seriously leading up to even meeting one another," Boyd tells PEOPLE. "So, it's such a gift to find someone that has the same vision for marriage as you, is equally as committed, and understands the covenant relationship that it is meant to be."

Mills adds, "It means we will always have someone who puts our needs before their own. It means our children will always have both parents around, loving each other and loving them. Unconditional love."

Because Boyd and Mills both "come from families with a serious love for '70s classic rock," that was the "vibe" of cocktail hour. A "well-rounded" playlist continued into the reception, with Boyd slipping his "West Coast representation" into the lineup and Mills featuring her "deep country roots" and "love for classic country" via "red dirt music."

Odd Lot Photo

Madeline Mills and Cayden Boyd on their wedding day

The newlyweds shared their first dance to "Can't Help Falling in Love" by Elvis Presley. The 1961 love ballad also happened to be the bride's grandparents' song, making it "a really sweet surprise."

Guests dined from stations of Boyd's favorite foods, street tacos and empanadas. For dessert, they enjoyed "adorable" cakesicles (which were especially "a hit with the kids") and slices of almond vanilla cake with fresh berries and vanilla frosting. The wedding cake was baked by one of the bride's patients, who is a local business owner.

"I really love supporting local business owners when we can," Mills says. "It's always more personal, and you can't beat a homemade cake."

Boyd and Mills met on a camping trip with mutual friends. Being new to the group, Mills' girlfriends gave her "the rundown on who was single," pointing out Boyd. Mills admittedly "didn't expect him to be [her] type," but they had instant chemistry.

"I liked hanging out with her immediately, because you could just tell that she could hang camping and being outside, and she was just overall fun to be around," Boyd remembers. "I found myself wanting to hang out with her more and more, and developing a really big crush on her. If there was going to be a hangout with friends and I found out Mads was going, I was definitely gonna make it."

Odd Lot Photo

Madeline Mills and Cayden Boyd on their wedding day

Eventually, Boyd asked Mills out, and cooked for her on their first date.

"The more time we spent together and the more I got to know him, we found out a lot of our roots were actually very similar. The way we see the world, how we like spending our time, what's important to us," Mills says. "It was really cool because I was like, 'Man. Even if he wasn't ridiculously attractive, I could be best friends with this guy.' And now we get to be best friends forever."

Boyd — who has also had child roles in 2003's Mystic River, 2006's X-Men: The Last Stand and 2008's Fireflies in the Garden —popped the question with a "unique, perfect" engagement ring at Mills' family ranch in Oklahoma on May 18, 2024.

Odd Lot Photo

Madeline Mills and Cayden Boyd's wedding ceremony

"It's one of the most special places on Earth for me," Mills says. "It was a Sunday, and we had gone to dinner. We were headed out to have a bonfire at the ranch with my family after, but the weather was questionable. May in Oklahoma tends to yield storms and tornadoes. I did have some questions about why we still wanted to go, given the circumstances, but I generally like to be a yes-man if Cayden is excited about something. He has a tendency to make everything fun. So we went. He took me out to the pasture and had a friend that is also a photographer hiding in the weeds. It was special."

Afterward, the couple had a small party at the ranch house to celebrate.

"I'm crazy about her, and it's such a gift having someone that shares the same faith, values, and vision for marriage, life, and family," Boyd shares.

Odd Lot Photo

Madeline Mills and Cayden Boyd on their wedding day

For their honeymoon, the couple will travel to One&Only Mandarina in Riviera Nayarit, Mexico. They look forward to surfing together, and to their relaxing stay in a treetop suite nestled in the jungle, overlooking the ocean.

The pair are also excited to soon "navigate early marriage, kids, family, and career shifts" together.

"I'm way excited about building a home together," Mills says. "We talk a lot about how we want it to look, how we want it to feel, how we can be generous with it. We're excited to host friends and family. But more than anything, I'm excited to live with my best friend — making meals together, picking out movies to watch, talking about our day, creating rhythms. I'm way excited for the little moments."

A stock image of a wedding venue -

A mother has promised her four daughters each $35,000 as long as they don't have weddings

The individual shared that she's not anti-marriage, just against overspending on elaborate weddings

The mother herself had a "big fancy poofy wedding," which was lovely, but shared that throwing the event ultimately put her and her husband in debt for the next five years

A mother is defending her decision to give her children each $35,000 should they choose not to have a wedding.

In a post on TikTok, a mother, who identified herself as Kate, explained why she's promised such a high amount to her daughters — it hinges on the condition that they don't have weddings. Kate, a mother of four, isn't anti-marriage, she clarified — she's just against the rising culture of overspending for the occasion.

"If they choose not to have a wedding, they will get a check," Kate said in the video. "And the reason I'm going to do that is because most married couples start off their marriage in debt."

Kate and her husband tied the knot in a "big fancy poofy wedding," but the couple spent the next five years paying off the resulting debt, she said. If she was given the choice again, Kate said she'd rather invest the money that went into the celebration — into a home, a honeymoon or a retirement fund, for example.

In her opinion, a courthouse wedding or a small ceremony in a family member's backyard would have been just as nice, Kate said. In hindsight, the big wedding was "a huge waste of money," she said.

"That would have been a better start for us," Kate said. "That would have taken a lot of the pressure off the first few years of our marriage."

"It was a beautiful day, it was a great wedding. But the cost of it was exorbitant," she added.

Getty

Large wedding.

She hopes to encourage that sort of thinking in her daughters with the promise of a $35,000 check, she continued, as that's roughly the average cost of a wedding these days.

A report from Brides.com in February 2025 stated that weddings and the associated celebrations cost an average between $31,000 and $36,000 — though more than half of couples are "expected to go over budget." Broadly, wedding costs have consistently rising in recent years, the report added.

— sign up for PEOPLE's free daily newsletter to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from juicy celebrity news to compelling human interest stories.

However, the decision is truly up to her daughters, Kate said. They "know my heart on the matter," she said, and should they decide to have a big wedding, they know she'll be supportive and cover any of the necessary costs.

A mom has died after she and her family were rescued from a small island off the coast of Massachusetts days after escaping a boat that caught fire.

Cynthia Sullivan was one of three people who spent nearly two days on Naushon Island after they swam from their boat when it went up in flames and capsized. All three sustained third-degree burns from the blaze.

The trio, including Cynthia's husband Patrick and son Tyler, were rescued on Wednesday, Oct. 22, after taking shelter in a barn on the island.

Cynthia was transported to Cape Cod Hospital after the rescue. On Friday, Oct. 24, her son Christopher Sullivan announced on Facebook that his mom had died.

"My mom passed last night. She went in peace," he wrote, noting that they "played her some John Mellencamp as she passed."

Patrick is now "awake and breathing on his own," according to Christopher, who now considers his brother Tyler a hero. He claimed Tyler saved both of their parents from the fire.

"He was able to get them off the boat under extremely chaotic circumstances," Christopher wrote, adding, "he doesn't want to be called a hero, but he is."

(Reuters) -U.S. President Donald Trump has picked Michael Selig as the Commodity Futures Trading Commission chair, Bloomberg News reported on Friday, citing an administration official.

Selig is chief counsel for the CFTC's crypto task force and has been working alongside Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Paul Atkins, the report added.

The CFTC did not respond immediately to a Reuters request for comment.

The move comes as the digital assets industry, which had been facing regulatory pressures, takes center stage under the Trump administration with new legislations and laws.
