MANCHESTER, England (AP) — Historic English soccer club Sheffield Wednesday's future was thrown into doubt Friday after it was taken over by administrators amid financial concerns.

The English Football League confirmed that the club, which was founded in 1867, will be hit with a 12-point deduction after entering administration. A notice was filed at the Insolvency and Companies Court - a specialist court within the High Court - on Friday.

The move comes after Wednesday's well-documented financial issues under owner Dejphon Chansiri, which have prompted protests from fans.

"For the fans, staff and players of Sheffield Wednesday this is an extremely worrying situation," said U.K. culture secretary Lisa Nandy. "Owners should be good custodians who act with their club's best interests in mind and clearly, in this instance, that has not been the case."

The four-time English champion was an original member of the Premier League. It now plays in the second-tier Championship and is currently bottom of the 24-team league.

Despite the best efforts of Aaron Gordon, the Golden State Warriors are 2-0. Thanks to the best efforts of Stephen Curry.

Behind 40 points from their former MVP, the Warriors survived a historic 50-point night from Gordon in a 137-129 overtime win over the Denver Nuggets on Thursday. It was a night with all the intensity of a late-round playoff game, no more so when Curry pulled up for a game-tying 3-pointer with 21.9 seconds left.

STEPH SENDS IT TO OT WITH THE CLUTCH THREE 😱(via @NBCSWarriors)pic.twitter.com/Tei8sVmQZS

— Yahoo Sports (@YahooSports) October 24, 2025

Curry again led the Warriors to the win in overtime. During one stretch between the end of the fourth quarter and the start of OT, he scored 16 consecutive points for the Warriors.

It was the kind of the game that should leave the Nuggets' stars wondering what they could have possibly done better, at least on offense. Gordon scored his 50 points on a wildly efficient 17-of-21 shooting and went 10-of-11 from deep. It was a career high in scoring for him, the most points scored by a Nugget in a season opener and the most efficient 50-point night in NBA history by true shooting percentage (105.8).

He made what could have been the game-winning 3-pointer, had Curry not immediately responded with his own heroics. Even though the Nuggets lost, the idea of Gordon suddenly becoming a legitimate threat from the perimeter adds a dimension to their lineup that could be terrifying down the line.

Aaron Gordon has come a loooooooong way as a shooter. This type of performance was unheard of him from just two years ago and would have seemed delusional when he was shooting 42% from the line in college. Hard work pays off… pic.twitter.com/BE7UR6wyH5

— Kevin O'Connor (@KevinOConnor) October 24, 2025

Nikola Jokić also posted a triple-double with 23 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists, while Jamal Murray had 25 points and 10 assists.

Unfortunately for them, they ran into Curry on what might as well be described as "one of those nights." Six other Warriors scored in double figures, including Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green. By the end of overtime, Denver basically seemed to give up judging from how they picked up Curry in transition.

That didn't stop Curry from hitting them with the "Night, night."

CURRY SAYS NIGHT NIGHT, NUGGETS 😴 pic.twitter.com/3XGOKPDdHb

— Warriors on NBCS (@NBCSWarriors) October 24, 2025

Between a thriller against the Nuggets and convincing win over the Los Angeles Lakers, it's been a fairly ideal start to the season for Golden State. Next up on Friday: the Portland Trail Blazers, who are reeling from the arrest of head coach Chauncey Billups earlier Thursday.

April 14, 2022 1:05 p.m. ET

RuPaul's Drag Race Zoom reunions that could, without question, also pass for the Mortal Kombat character selection screen? No more! Angeria Paris VanMicheals joins EW's BINGE podcast to dish on the season 14 closer, including the show's first live reunion in three years that the finalist promises will be a dramatic moment where brewing tension comes to a head.

"What you can expect is a lot of unresolved situations between people coming to a head, finally," Angeria explains of the upcoming reunion, set to air Friday at 8 p.m. ET/PT on VH1. "The reunion of course is a moment where everybody gets to address those things they might've known had been said or might've not known. We've all been watching confessionals, so this is the moment for everything to be laid out on the table."

Without naming names, Angeria remembers feeling that things were "left unresolved" between certain cast members when they were eliminated from the competition, and stresses that the reunion "is the moment to come back and say, okay, let's resolve this."

She also says the fact that this is the first live reunion in years adds to the excitement factor: "This isn't a Zoom reunion, girl. No shade to the other seasons. They did what they had to do," she continues. "But we're back, live, sitting with each other and Ru, so it's going to be a lot of fun."

Angeria also teases something else might soon turn red-hot in the future: Her friendship with fellow season 14 finalist Lady Camden. After the adorable duo admitted there might be a mutual crush brewing in the Werk Room when they first laid eyes on each other during the premiere, Camden later promised to take her new friend to San Francisco's BDSM-centric Folsom Street Fair after Angeria's hilariously innocent reaction to finding out that it wasn't just, uh, a street carnival.

"I cannot confirm that this is a Brooke and Vanjie moment. Now, if we are working on a Brooke and Vanjie moment, that might be more of something. But, while the show is still going on, I know that myself and Lady for sure are trying to focus on everything when both of us have very busy schedules. Even if that was a thing, I don't think either one of us are able to handle anything that could blossom seriously," she says. "I think I can proudly say that both of us would be open to future possibilities when [we] have a little more of a handle on things. Right now, things are entirely too busy to be thinking about any kind of thing, so until then, she's going to take me to Folsom."

RuPaul's Drag Race

Angeria Paris VanMicheals previews 'Drag Race' season 14 reunion. VH1/World of Wonder

Earlier in the episode, Angeria's fellow RuGirl and friend (as well as former pageant competitor) Silky Nutmeg Ganache joined EW's Quick Drag Twitter Spaces to spill her thoughts on the upcoming season 14 finale, recounting how she felt heading into the season 11 finale back in 2019.

"I know each girl is heading into the finale with a different goal. For me, when I went into season 11, to the finale, I knew that I was not going to win season 11. I felt in my heart of hearts.... I didn't think I had a chance at all. My goal going into it was to look as beautiful as possible, and to lose with my grace and my dignity," Silky says, adding that she felt the fandom and perception from the show painted her in an unflattering light. "This season, with them having a top five, I can't even imagine what these girls are going in with. Is it going to be another lip-sync smackdown where they're lip-syncing against each other and it's dwindling? With a bigger cast, it's more stressful for them. If they have self-doubt on top of this stress, I think it's going to show. I hope that no girl feels that way or feel what I felt going into the finale."

Silky previously opened up to EW about the mistreatment she received in the industry (including losing paid gigs) after her time on season 11, which featured sustained depictions of her arguments with other queens — particularly Yvie Oddly, which she says didn't reflect the true reality of the situation.

RuPaul's Drag Race

Silky Nutmeg Ganache gets her redemption during the 'RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars 6' lip-sync smackdown. Paramount+

"I will feel validated when I start to get the roles on television shows or I get my own reality show just like those judges said that I needed," she told EW after her show-stopping domination of the All Stars 6 lip-sync smackdown, which saw her slay five consecutive lip-sync performances in one episode. "I'm grateful that the fans are doing what they're doing now, but I went back on All Stars to excel in my career. Now is the time where I'm hoping that all the people that said, 'We need to see you more,' actually put in the action and aren't afraid to back me up because of the feedback they think they'd get."

June 8, 2022 7:49 p.m. ET

Monét X Change — beloved sponge queen — is soaking up all of the chaotic vibes after being blocked from winning another Legendary Legend Star for the first time on RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars 7.

Though she stirred the pot by forming an alliance with fellow* All Stars 4 *winner Trinity The Tuck back on episode 1 of the first all-winners competition in Drag Race her-story, Monét says in an exclusive EW's BINGE podcast interview (below) that she suspects an alternate, secret alliance is brewing among her sisters outside the AS4 coalition — specifically, as she says, including Drag Race UK's The Vivienne, who handed Monét the Platinum Plunger on Friday's episode.

"Jaida did hand it to her, so, maybe they have some situation working that I'm not privy to, and I'm very curious to see what ends up happening," Monét says of the moment Jaida Essence Hall handed The Vivienne a xylophone prop from off-stage to enhance her lip-sync performance at the end of the episode, which helped her win the dance-off and ultimately gave her the ability to block Monét. "We haven't seen it yet, I don't know where we're at or what you've seen or what makes the cut, but I definitely thought there was a smoker's alliance going on, and this was furthering my point."

When asked if she knew that Jaida was going to spruce up The Vivienne's performance with the prop hand-off, Monét maintains that she had no idea the exchange would happen.

Jaida Essence Hall gives The Vivienne a xylophone during her 'RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars 7' lip-sync.

"I think that it's part of the alliance. Maybe it did happen, but I did not see any talks of them giving someone a xylophone, about who's going to do the American Bandstand," Monét explains. "So, I think there's some alliance that we're going to find out about, and people will see that I was not the only one playing the game."

While she still has her eyes on Jaida, Monét counts The Vivienne out of her plan for an alliance, joking that she "will absolutely come for that bitch" after the British queen's latest move.

"Now that I have been blocked, I don't feel the weight of having to be so crazy with the alliance. I'm still going to be working, but not as intensely as I was," finishes Monét. "Maybe a little twist might come that might force me to play hard again, but who knows?"

The doors Kandy Muse opened for backpack skirts — like the one she wore during her infamous Untucked clash with Tamisha Iman — can still be felt on the RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars 7 runway, and the "Producer" herself has something to say about it.

But before diving into our latest recap of AS7 on EW's BINGE podcast (below), the season 13 runner-up exclusively tells EW how she patched things up with Tamisha at RuPaul's DragCon L.A. last month, following a turbulent period in the costars' relationship throughout most of 2021.

"I wasn't sure how it was going to go between me and Tamisha, because I knew we had to do the queen walk, and we hadn't spoken since the whole blocked-on-Instagram situation," Kandy recalls of lining up to walk the pink carpet atop the main floor at the drag convention. "We were back stage, I looked at her, she looked at me, we just went up to each other, hugged each other and were like, 'Hey girl, how have you been?'"

Tamisha Iman and Kandy Muse

Tamisha Iman and Kandy Muse pose at DragCon in Los Angeles on May 13, 2022. Santiago Felipe/FilmMagic

Kandy says fellow cast member Denali then suggested that she stand with Tamisha as the cast hit the carpet, when she remembers Tamisha asking her if they wanted to "walk together" in front of fans for the first time since they publicly butted heads across social media following their iconic argument on Untucked.

"I was like, 'Yeah, you know what, you go out there first, pause on the carpet, then I'll go out there and we'll hold hands.' It really was a moment," Kandy says. "For the rest of that weekend, I kept popping back up and she kept popping back up at my booth and [we were] having a good time. We're in the works of working out something together for the future.... absolutely, why not, I think people love the dynamic of me and Tamisha for whatever reason, so, let's make it work. Life is too short. It's not personal, it's just drag!"

Turning her attention to All Stars 7, Kandy also says she got a kick out of judge Michelle Visage praising last week's challenge winner Jaida Essence Hall for using bags on her skirt over a year after the season 13 finalist memorably hot-glued a bunch of backpacks to her waist for her ball challenge back in 2021.

"I thought Jaida looked incredible, and when Michelle [asked] who would've thought to put backpacks on a skirt on a ball episode, which is exactly what I did on my ball episode, I was like, hmm, interesting," Kandy says with a laugh, going on to reveal that she had initially begun to construct an entirely different outfit made of plaid acrylic bags, but decided against it at the last minute as she pivoted to the colorful backpack ensemble she created.

She says the look is still in her closet, though the fragile piece is "hanging on by a thread, or by glue," and might only make a comeback if her planned collaboration with Tamisha ever comes to fruition.

Untucked Kandy VH1

Kandy Muse in her Bag Ball Eleganza look during a heated 'Untucked.'. VH1

Kandy ultimately feels that the All Stars 7 ball ranks as "cohesively, one of the best balls" in franchise her-story — even with the threat of season 7 winner Violet Chachki booting fan-favorite looks, like she recently did to Raja.

"I think that it's hilarious, I think that people take the opinions of other people way too literal and serious," Kandy says of the drama surrounding Raja getting "booted" on the Fashion Photo RuView recap show Violet hosts with season 13's Gottmik. "To me, a boot from Violet Chachki is just a boot from Violet Chachki. It doesn't change or make anything. Fashion, to me, is art, and art is subjective. Some people thought that my alien look was campy, some people hated the alien look, the beauty is behind the beholder's eye — or whatever the saying is."

Intel stock jumps as Q3 earnings beat expectations, AI drives chip demand

-

 • Intel stock jumps as Q3 earnings beat expectations, AI drives chip demand

Laura BrattonOctober 24, 2025 at 5:59 AM

0

Intel (INTC) stock jumped more than 7% in premarket trading on Friday as the chipmaker reported third quarter earnings and revenue that topped Wall Street's expectations.

Intel reported $13.7 billion in revenue for the three months ended Sept. 27, higher than the $13.15 billion expected by analysts tracked by Bloomberg and $13.28 billion the previous year. The chipmaker said that adjusted earnings per share was $0.23, above the $0.01 projected by Wall Street. The company reported a loss of $0.46 during the same period in 2024.

CEO Lip-Bu Tan said in a statement that "AI is accelerating demand for compute and creating attractive opportunities across our portfolio," including the company's closely-watched, struggling manufacturing business and its products.

"We believe we're well-positioned to play a more significant role in AI," added Intel's head of investor relations John Pitzer in an interview with Yahoo Finance.

Intel makes CPUs, or traditional computer chips, used alongside AI chips in data center servers to power artificial intelligence software. Its CPUs are also used in computers including AI PCs.

The company said it expects fourth quarter adjusted EPS of $0.08, less than the $0.10 per share estimated by analysts, per Bloomberg consensus data. The chipmaker forecasts revenue of $13.3 billion at the midpoint of its projected range, below the $13.4 billion expected.

Intel said its fourth quarter guidance was below analyst estimates because the company's projections don't include revenue from Altera —a semiconductor firm owned by Intel that the company partly divested in the third quarter.

Intel's third quarter results follow a slew of high-profile investments from the US government, Nvidia (NVDA), and SoftBank (9984.T). The government took a 9.9% stake in the chipmaker in late August, while Nvidia's $5 billion investment amounted to a 4% ownership stake. The investments bolstered both Intel's balance sheet and investor hopes for a turnaround under new chief executive Lip-Bu Tan.

Still, analysts and investors have said those investments do little to change the state of Intel's struggling third-party manufacturing segment. Intel has always manufactured its own chips, but it opened up the business to outside customers in 2021.

Intel's manufacturing arm, Intel Foundry Services, reported an operating loss of $2.3 billion for the third quarter, wider than the $2.2 billion expected but an improvement from the $5.8 billion loss in the previous year.

Creative Strategies principal analyst Ben Bajarin told Yahoo Finance that, overall, Intel's results Thursday were cause for "cautious optimism," but looking ahead, "all eyes move to foundry."

Intel headquarters. (Photo by Justin Sullivan/Getty Images) (Justin Sullivan via Getty Images)

Wall Street fears that heavy spending on the relatively new segment may not pay off. So far, the business has failed to attract substantial commitments from outside customers. Policymakers, however, are heavily invested in the company's success due to its geopolitical significance: Most of the world's computing chips are made in Taiwan, and Intel is the only US-based, large-scale advanced semiconductor manufacturer.

Complicating the path ahead for the business is the fact that Intel is no longer promoting its latest 18A chip production process as a way to attract outside customers. Initial reports indicated both Nvidia and Broadcom (AVGO) were testing the technology, but deals with the firms have failed to materialize.

Instead, Intel has shifted to primarily using 18A for its own internal products, including its Core Ultra series 3 chips for consumers and its Xeon 6+ next-generation data center chip, which is slated to launch in the first half of 2026.

Intel is now focusing on attracting customers through its next-generation advanced manufacturing process, dubbed 14A.

Intel's Pitzer told Yahoo Finance, "[W]e are very pleased by the feedback we're getting with early customer engagements. Quite frankly, where we are today on 14A is absolutely ahead of where we [were] at a similar point in time in the 18A development."

StockStory aims to help individual investors beat the market.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -The number of Americans filing new applications for jobless benefits increased last week, economists estimated on Thursday, and more people were collecting unemployment checks in early October amid easing labor market conditions.

Initial claims for state unemployment benefits rose to a seasonally adjusted 232,000 for the week ended October 18 from 220,000 the prior week, economists at Citigroup and Nationwide calculated. Goldman Sachs estimated claims at 227,000 while JPMorgan put the number at 229,000.

Claims data was unavailable for Tennessee, Massachusetts and Colorado. But economists made assumptions for the three states, similar to what the Labor Department would normally do when data is not available.

States continue to collect the claims figures, submitting them to the Labor Department despite a shutdown of the U.S. government that has caused an economic data blackout.

Economists have taken the unadjusted data to make estimates using seasonal adjustment factors the government published earlier this year, providing some view of the labor market.

Prior to the shutdown, now in its third week, signs of labor market softness were mounting, driven mostly by lackluster hiring that economists have blamed on the Trump administration's trade policy. The estimated claims have stayed within their pre-shutdown range, suggesting there has not been a material pickup in layoffs.

"The latest state-level jobless claims data suggests the labor market remains steady and that layoffs remain low," said Oren Klachkin, financial market economist at Nationwide. "Overall, initial claims remain subdued and aren't flagging an imminent economic downturn."

But there has been a spike in applications by federal employees in recent weeks, likely related to the more than 150,000 workers who dropped off payrolls at the end of September after accepting buyouts.

Furloughed federal employees can apply for unemployment benefits, but they would have to reimburse the program when they receive their back pay. Claims for federal workers are reported under a different program. The latest data for the program was not immediately available.

The regular claims data covered the period during which the government would have surveyed employers for the nonfarm payrolls component of October's employment report.

Economists did not view the shutdown as negatively impacting the quality of October's payrolls count.

They, however, believed the delay could improve the response rate to the survey. A low response rate has been blamed for large revisions to payrolls data.

The Federal Reserve is expected to cut interest rates again next week to aid the labor market.

The number of people receiving unemployment benefits after an initial week of aid, a proxy for hiring, increased to a seasonally adjusted 1.942 million during the week ending October 11 from 1.928 million, Citigroup estimated. Calculations for these so-called continuing claims by Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan and Nationwide were within that ballpark.

The elevated continued claims readings suggest unemployed people are experiencing difficulties landing new positions. The jobless rate rose to nearly a four-year high of 4.3% in August.

"This likely reflects the low hiring environment, as typically hiring would pick up in October for the holiday season," said Gisela Young, an economist at Citigroup. "Some indications suggest holiday hiring may be less than usual this year."
