A resumption of the annual rivalry game between Oregon and Oregon State will have to wait at least another year.
Oregon State athletic directorScott Barnes told the Oregonianthe two teams would not meet in 2027 and were targeting a series that would begin in 2028.
"We weren't able to do that," Barnes told the paper. "That was on our side."
Oregon and Oregon State are not playing in 2026 for the first time. It was, like many others, a rivalry game that has been disrupted by the chase for millions that is conference realignment. Oregon leads the series 70-49-10.

As members of the Pac-12, the schools were locked into playing each other every year. But after the Pac-12 effectively disbanded after the 2023 season and Oregon left for the Big Ten, the two schools had to scramble to keep the series going.
It was just a short-term fix. The two teams played a home-and-home in 2024 and 2025.
In 2027, Oregon State has non-conference games against Portland State, New Mexico, Ole Miss and BYU since the remodeled Pac-12 has eight conference games among its eight members. Oregon, meanwhile, needs to find a third non-conference game.According to FB Schedules, the Ducks only have games against Eastern Washington and Baylor lined up.
Washington and Washington State were able to keep their rivalry series going after the Pac-12 fell apart in 2023, but that series doesn't have a long-term agreement either. The two schools are set to play for the next three seasons, but nothing is in place for 2029 and beyond.
In a perfect world, the two legacy Pac-12 rivalries would be played in perpetuity along with games like Oklahoma vs. Oklahoma State and Missouri vs. Kansas. Instead, the current collegiate landscape has helped lead to disruptions as athletic departments are desperate to maximize revenue in nearly any way possible.
