The man who is accused of having kidnapped a 10-year-old girl from her Oregon home has been charged.
Vince Edgar Chavez, 35, was arraigned on Thursday, Oct. 29 on ten felony charges including attempted murder, assault, kidnapping, sexual abuse, burglary and and two counts of sodomy and unlawful use of a weapon, the Clackamas County District Attorney’s Office (CCDAO) said in a press release.
The CCDAO requested that Chavez be held without bail, a request a circuit judge granted, according to the release.
“The District Attorney’s Office is grateful for the swift action by our law enforcement partners in locating and arresting the defendant before he could inflict further harm,” said CCDAO Chief Deputy District Attorney Chris Owen in a statement.
The 10-year-old child — whose name was not released due to her age — was abducted from her home in Canby, Ore. on the morning of Wednesday, Oct. 28, the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) said in a press release.
The USMS Pacific Northwest Violent Offender Task Force was dispatched to locate the little girl and the “prime suspect” in the incident. They were able to locate them in the 500 block of Pleasant Ave, in Oregon City — which is located about 10 miles away from Canby, USMS said.
The task force, with a local SWAT team, police, a Tactical Negotiations Team and FBI, worked together to plan a raid on the site. They made entry as the suspect “attempted to escape out the rear of the house.”
Chavez was arrested without further incident, said USMS.
The girl was found “in the residence tied up in a closet,” according to the USMS. The CCDAO said in their separate release that she was found “restrained by duct tape and stuffed in a duffle bag.”
Video obtained by CNN, showed law enforcement in tactical gear escorting the child safely into one of their vehicles. The USMS said she was “transported to a local medical facility for treatment of her injuries and further evaluation.”
