Tony Romo was disqualified from a golf tournament on the same day CBS Sports announced it was parting ways with the former NFL quarterback in the wake of his OWI arrest.
Romo, 46, was playing in the final round of a Korn Ferry Tour pre-qualifying tournament in Oklahoma on Friday, Oct. 2 when officials later determined that he signed off on his score card with two wrong scores, according to Golf.com.
The amateur golfer, who was seeking playing privileges on the tour, wrote that he made a 4 on the 16th hole as well as a 4 on 17. But those who played alongside Romo said he made a 5 on both holes.
Romo signed off on the lower score and did not fix the error within 15 minutes of leaving the scoring area, which was a violation of PGA Tour-sanctioned play, per Golf.com.
Romo reportedly took responsibility for the wrong card and was later “very complimentary” about the event, which was held at the Club at Forest Ridge in Broken Arrow, a rules official said.

Even if the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback would have scored 4s on both holes, he would not have advanced to the next round.
The development came on the same day that CBS announced it had “mutually agreed to part ways” with Romo, months after he was put on indefinite leave following his July 23 arrest on suspicion of operating a vehicle while intoxicated in Milwaukee.
“CBS Sports and Tony Romo have mutually agreed to part ways. We thank Tony for his contributions over the past nine years and wish him the best moving forward,” the statement read.
During a field sobriety test, a deputy asked Romo if he had any recent head injuries or concussions, to which Romo smiled and laughed: “Over the years, yes, but not recently.”

The deputy asked Romo if he was willing to take a PBT (preliminary breath test), to which he responded, “Oh no, we’re not doing that. I’ve already heard from all the lawyers, ‘Don’t ever do that.’”
Days after his arrest, Romo dropped out of a golf tournament in Texas. Romo was set to play in the Texas State Open in Tyler, but withdrew from the event, NBC affiliate KETK-TV reported.
Romo joined CBS in 2017 and worked alongside Jim Nantz in the network’s lead NFL booth. Former NFL defensive end JJ Watt was elevated to Romo’s spot over the summer.
