Angel Reese and the Atlanta Dream have earned the opportunity to compete for a WNBA championship. Now the organization continues to face an unexpected problem before the Finals even begin.

As announced on Monday, Atlanta is scheduled to face the Golden State Valkyries in the best-of-seven championship series beginning Saturday, October 17. However, questions surrounding the Dream's home venue have created an unusual situation for a team preparing for one of the biggest moments in franchise history.

The issue continues to center on arena availability and capacity.

Atlanta normally plays at Gateway Center Arena, which seats approximately 3,500 fans. That is considerably smaller than Golden State's Chase Center, which accommodates roughly 18,000 spectators for basketball.

With interest in the WNBA continuing to grow, the difference has become a significant talking point.

The Dream have been exploring larger venues for their home Finals games. State Farm Arena would appear to be a natural option, particularly because Atlanta plans to make it its full-time home beginning with the 2027 season.

However, scheduling conflicts have complicated that possibility.

The arena already has other events booked during the relevant dates, creating uncertainty about whether the Dream can use the building. Other potential options reportedly under consideration include Gas South Arena and Georgia Tech's McCamish Pavilion.

As of Monday, a larger venue had not been confirmed. The situation creates an unusual contrast between the two championship contenders.

Golden State will host the opening two games at Chase Center, a major NBA arena that regularly attracts large crowds for Valkyries games. Atlanta's home arrangements remain less certain.

The timing is especially notable because Reese has helped bring increased attention to Atlanta. The Dream acquired the former Chicago Sky star before the season, and she has become a central figure in the team's championship pursuit.

Atlanta advanced to the Finals after sweeping the New York Liberty in the semifinals. Reese scored 22 points in the decisive 85-83 victory, helping the Dream reach the championship series for the first time since 2013.

Golden State also completed a semifinal sweep, eliminating the defending champion Las Vegas Aces . That guarantees the league will crown a first-time champion.

The Finals begin Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET in San Francisco. Atlanta is scheduled to host Games 3 and 4 on October 22 and October 24.

The Dream have already earned their place on the biggest stage. The remaining question is whether their home venue will be large enough to accommodate the attention surrounding it.
